As part of their information disclosure regulations, Transpower and all 29 EDBs are required to report the duration, frequency, and causes of power outages. The duration and frequency of outages are normally expressed in SAIDI (system average interruption duration index) and SAIFI (system average interruption frequency index). In the five years to 31 March 2024, the 29 EDBs reported an average unplanned-outage SAIDI of 204.04 minutes and a SAIFI of 1.87, and an average planned-outage SAIDI of 101.16
